NFL Preview Pittsburgh Steelers (0-0) at Cleveland Browns (0-0) by entity wagering investment company mkinvestllc. Sunday, September 9th, 1:00 PM EST. FirstEnergy Stadium, Cleveland, Ohio.
Pittsburgh rolls into Cleveland and all the talk is about Pittsburgh “issues” with Bell not reporting and how improved the Cleveland Browns are. Line movement in week 1 of the NFL is not new and since week 1 lines are out for weeks and months in advance, we see more line movement in week 1 of the NFL than any other week. The line in this game has seen Pittsburgh go from an opening line of -6.5 all the way down to -3.5. Yesterday, at -3.5 we seen some money play on Pittsburgh and the line jumped back -4.5. This morning, game day, we see the line drop back -3.5.
Perhaps the optimism surrounding Cleveland this year is an improved roster that rolled over 60% of their players. The addition of Tyrod Taylor at QB and first rounder Baker Mayfield. Carlos Hyde added to the running game. The defense is young and will run one of the more aggressive defensive schemes in the league. Williams runs a 4-3 defense that bolster their play against the run but makes them vulnerable to the pass and on passing downs they will use a 3-3-5. So, while we will see good run defense, teams like Pittsburgh with excellent wide receivers can still exploit the Browns defense. Rolling over 60% of their roster makes since for a team that went 1 – 31 over the last two seasons.
Pittsburgh went 13 – 3 last season and while we might not see that record again, the Steelers open the season with 3 winnable games against Cleveland, Kansas City, and Tampa Bay. However, that’s the trick for Pittsburgh who have traditionally gotten off to slow start in week 1, against the numbers, and have not been a great spread covering team week 1. Bell not showing up for the start of the season is a distraction, the Steelers have more than enough talent to surpass that issue and this “distraction” could turn into a motivation factor, especially week 1 on the road virus the Browns where the betting line has dropped 3 full points. Antonio Brown and JuJu Smith-Schuster are top NFL wide receivers and are capable of carrying this game for the Steelers.
