MLB Preview Milwaukee Brewers (68-57) at St. Louis Cardinals (68-56) by entity wagering investment company mkinvestllc. Sunday, August 19 First Pitch 2:15 PM EST. Busch Stadium.
A few weeks back we previewed the Cards and they were 3 ½ games back of the wild card sport and after yesterday’s win over the Brewers, the Cards are in the second wild spot. Their hot run continues as the St. Louis Cardinals have won 9 of their last 10 games and are 17 - 5 over their last 22 games. The Cards have now taken 7 series is row including the Brewers, Nationals, Miami, Cubs, Royals, Pirates, and the Rockies. Today, they look for a series sweep over the Milwaukee Brewers. The Brewers wake up today finding themselves not in the playoffs for the first time since early in the season. The Brewers have lost 3 in row, 4 of the last 5 and 7 of the last 10. Milwaukee was a surprise early on and if they want to continue their shot at the wild card spot they need a win today and will have to continue to win series. The Brewers do have a decent schedule coming up as they will be hosting the Cincinnati Reds, who they are 6-3 against this year, and the Pittsburgh Pirates before heading to Cincinnati to play the Reds again.
The Milwaukee Brewers send Jhoulys Chacin to the mound who is Milwaukee’s best performer on the mound. Chacin is 12 – 4 overall with an ERA of 3.72. He is 7 – 2 on the road with an ERA 3.83. Chacin bounced back strong in his last outing shutting out the Cubs, going 7 full innings allowing no runs and just 3 hits. His history, going back to 2011, against the Cards shows some bad luck and some struggles as his teams are just 1 – 7 against the Cards.
The St. Louis Cardinals counter with John Gant who is 5 – 4 overall with an ERA of 3.74. He 4 – 3 at home with an ERA of 3.26. Over his last two starts he has gone 2 – 0 allowing just 2 runs over 11.1 inning. He has had one start against the Brewers in 2017 taking the loss 3 – 5.
