MLB Preview Arizona Diamondbacks (26-25) at Oakland Athletics (27-25) by entity wagering company mkinvestllc. First pitch 4:05 PM EST, Oakland Coliseum. Arizona came out the gates fast this year but have struggled mightily in the month of May, including going 2 – 14 in their last 16 games. Before winning the opening game with Oakland, the Diamondbacks had lost 7 straight road games and are just 1 – 8 in their last 9 road games. Arizona’s issues can squarely be pointed to their lack of offense and over their last 15 games they have scored just 30 runs, scoring more than 2 runs just 3 times in those 15 games and scoring 1 run or less in 7 of those games. Oakland enters this one 6 – 4 in their last 10 and bounced back in game 2 of the series shutting out Arizona 3 – 0. Oakland road and home record remains about the same as they are 13 – 12 at home and 14 – 13 on the road. To illustrate just how bad Arizona’s offense has been, over the same time period and the last 15 games, Oakland has scored 70 runs to Arizona’s 30.
The bright side for Arizona today is starting pitcher Zack Greinke who is 3 – 3 overall with an ERA of 3.71. After what some consider a slow start for Greinke he has bounced back and before giving up 4 runs on 5 hits to the Brewers allowed just 1 run in 3 straight starts. Over his last 3 starts Greinke has gone 19 innings allowing 6 runs on 13 hits and has 20 strikeouts to just 1 walk. Greinke has not faced Oakland since the 2012 season.
The home team counters with Frankie Montas, who is being called up from AAA to give Cahill an additional day off. Montas rotated between the bullpen and few starts last year in majors. In 2017 Montas pitched 32 innings for Oakland allowing 25 runs on 39 hits, 20 base on balls and 10 home runs. He has saved himself with 36 strikeouts in those 32 innings. If you’re going to put more than 59 batters on base in 32 innings you going to need that strikeout pitch. 2018 at Triple-A Nashville, Montas is 1 – 5 with an ERA of 4.39. His numbers at Nashville have shown improvement going 41 innings and allowing 42 hits and again a solid 33 strikeouts.
Inside the numbers with entity wagering company mkinvestllc:
Team wise we are hard pressed to find good number as the Diamondbacks are 20 – 46 long term in their last 66 inter-league games including just 2 – 6 in inter-league road games. We also find the Diamondbacks 1 – 11 in their last 12 games when facing a right-handed starter. Arizona is 8 – 3 in the last 11 inter-league starts by Greinke and 12 – 4 in his last 16.
Oakland is just 5 – 16 in their last 21 home inter-league games and just 11 – 23 in their last 34 inter-league games. Oakland is 7 – 1 in their last 8 games when facing a right-handed starter and long term are 20 – 8 in their last 28 games at home when facing a right-handed starter.
The home team is 6 – 4 in the last 10 meetings with Arizona winning 6 of those games. The total has gone over 6 of the last 10 meetings, 4 of the 10 meetings came in Oakland where the total has split going 2 – 2 on those 10 meetings.
Opening line: Oakland -1.12, Arizona +1.02, total was set at 7.5
Prediction by entity wagering company mkinvestllc: Arizona 7, Oakland 3
